plastic bags

It is very helpful to carry a few nylon bags with certain items in them(especially toiletries).. Not only do the plastic bags could be useful as waste bags, to keep dirty laundry in side of or even as a makeshift umbrella, they also control any possible leaks. Ziplock or other airtight plastic bags are the best.

nalgene

it is possible to use small bottles to pack to save you the trouble of having to carry a big bottle with you. Clear and see through small bottles are better because they are easier for security purposes post August 2006. Some nalgene/small bottles are (all but) waterproof and really solid

one must be able to bargain appropriately when visiting developing countries. But wait! Have no fear! Because this is precisely where i come in. bargaining is like accepting change for the bill you just paid the cashier. Don't be thrown off guard by the rudeness of the ordeal! Here are some tips for a worthwhile bargain: don't automatically offer half the stated value just to work your way up from there. Price tags are often as much as 10 times as high as actual product value! Think before you give your initial price! Take your time. If you can't spare the time to determine the relevant, post-bargain price is it really that important to purchase? It is grave to be willing to walk away at moment's notice (or at least to appear to be be willing to walk away at moment's notice)
